Terry Wayne Kober passed away unexpectedly with the love of his life, June, by his side on February 17, 2025.
Often affectionately called TW by those who loved him (and sometimes not so affectionately), he was born the first son of Tom and Mary Kober. He and his brother Jon (Dixie) Kober grew up at Kober Farms, and he attended Park City Schools until his graduation in 1968.
Although drafted into the Air Force to serve in the Vietnam War, he was able to use his skill and love of all things mechanical. Serving afforded him the chance to travel, which he loved despite his hatred of flying. If you could get him talking, he could name many details of his varied travels, down to a favorite bar he visited in Australia.
Shortly after his return from the war, he began his tenure at the Laurel Refinery, where he worked until his retirement. In 1973, he welcomed his first daughter, Sheila, and later Melissa, and Leslianne. For being such a burly motorcycle guy, he was an incredible “girl dad”.
He married June on June 3, 1989 and hit the jackpot, gaining 2 more daughters, and a son. As a bonus, he got 7 more siblings: Garry (Terri) Ratzlaff, Henry (Jane) Ratzlaff, Robert Ratzlaff, Jeff (Carey) Ratzlaff, Greg Ratzlaff, Cindy (Mike) Harper, and Joanne (Jim) Kelso.
Terry loved his family, hot rods, Harleys and his dogs. Growing up, it’s hard to remember a time when he wasn’t’t working on some sort of car or bike project, but even harder to remember a time when there wasn’t’t at least one faithful pup following him around. His most recent boys, Raider and Chewbacca, enjoyed trips to Canyon Creek Brewery as well as daily scheduled rides to the dump, even getting antsy as it drew close to 3:00.
Although he loathed flying, he loved road trips, but for him the joy was definitely in the destination, not the journey. He took great pleasure in seeing just how few pit stops he could make on any given road trip. He enjoyed his yearly trips to Sturgis with June, and could usually be found driving one of his cars every year in the Laurel Fourth of July parade. He was a proud veteran and participated in the Honor Guard at the Park City American Legion’s annual Memorial Day event.
Terry leaves his wife June, daughters Sheila (David) Frickel, Melissa (Jerry) Moran, Leslianne (Travis) Johannsen, Tina (Scott) Hutchins and Misti (Brian) along with son Roger (Debi) Rosin. 15 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren had the privilege to call him Grandpa or Papa Terry.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Mary, his mother and father-in law Carol and Bill Ratzlaff and Beverly Thorne Kober.
Memorial Services are being planned for 10:00 am Saturday May 3, 2025. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church followed by Military Honors at Park City Cemetery.
