Susan was born into a military family as Susan Lee Gay in Washington, D.C. on September 19, 1946. The child of Colonel John Fredrick Gay and June (Hammond) Gay. Susan graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1968 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. Her father had the pleasure of swearing-in Susan as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army Nursing Corps. While working at San Francisco Juvenal Hall, she met her husband, Melvyn Askins. Together they raised two sons. Susan worked in the I.C.U. department of Brookside Hospital, San Pablo. In 1997, Susan and Mel moved from Richmond, CA to Fishtail, MT where they built a fine two story log home on land that originally was owned by Susan's maternal grandparents. Left to cherish Susie's memory is her husband Mel, sons John and Doug; sister Robin Rogers; brother Bill Gay; and five grandchildren. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00AM Friday April 24, 2009 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Absarokee, MT
