Ruth Adams Obituary

Ruth Shogen Adams passed away Friday, August 15, 2008 at the Billing Clinic surrounded by her family. Ruth was born in Livingston, MT on October 28, 1920 to Allan H. and Lillian (Mattson) Shogren. She spent most of her growing-up years in Livingston except for two years in Washington and two and a half years High School in Missoula. She graduated from Park County High School in 1938. In 1940 she entered Eastern Montana College of Education, graduating in 1942. She taught for one year in a rural school. In 1942 Ruth married Ray Adams of Columbus. They spent the next ten years in that area, moving to California in 1952. Mr Adams worked at Camp Pendleton until retirement in 1969, when they returned to Montana and settled in Virginia City. Mrs. Adamas woeked in several banks and was city clerk in Virginia city for 18 1/2 years before retiring in 1989. She also served as part-time postal clerk for 12 years - retiring form that in 1990. She was a member of Virginia CIty Does Drove #77 and the Vigilance Club of Virginia City serving as secretary in both clubs. She was a member of the Madison Valley Prebyterian Church and the Ladies Aid. In 1998, after the death of her husband, she moved to Absarokee living at the Homestead Lodge. In 2002 she became a resident of Beartooth Manor in Columbus, residing there until the time of her death. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a her sister, Helen. She is survived by her son Ed (Barbara), two grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one great great-grandson. A Memorial of Ruth's life will be held 10a.m. Tues., Aug 26 at Absarokee Congregational Church in Absarokee. Interment will be at a later date at the the Virginia City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
