Russell E. Brown died Saturday, September 13, 2008 at his home in Helena, MT after a long battle with cancer. Russell was born on June 9, 1928, the youngest of seven children to B.H. Brown and Mary A. Brown in Whitewater, MT.
Russell graduated from Malta High School in 1946, then attended electronics school in Chicago. He enlisted in the army, served in the Korean War, and was honorably discharged on September 24, 1953. He was a lifetime member of American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He returned to Whitewater after service and married Janet Austin, also of Whitewater, on June 3, 1954. Together they began a career of farming and ranching, starting in Whitewater and ending in Helena, MT.
Russell is survived by his wife of 54 years, Janet; his four children, daughter Carol Toenyes of Billings, son Gene (Anita) of Las Vegas, NV, daughter Kelly Blackford (Paul) of Helena, son Glen (Holly) of Billings; eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and numerous nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 am with viewing preceding at 11:00 am on Friday, September 19 at First Lutheran Church in Helena. Military honors and burial will follow at Fort Harrison cemetery in Helena, where a luncheon will be served afterward.
