Richard Mitchell Obituary

Richard "Dick" Clinton Mitchell, 81, of Laurel died on Saturday May 3, 2008. He fought a courageous battle with cancer. Dick was born May 27, 1926 to Arthur and Amelia Mitchell.

He grew up and attended schools in Moorhead, MN. In 1943 he entered the Navy and was honorable discharged following WWII. Dick met Virginia Stegriy and they married in 1949 in Bainsville, MN. They later moved to Independence OR then to Laurel in 1955. For 25 years Dick owned Mitch's Glass which later became Laurel Glass. Dick's passion was golf. He was an avid golfer, and an active member of the Laurel Golf Coarse from the time it first opened.

Dick was preceded in death by his son Richard Mitchell Jr; his parents; a brother Raymond, and a sister Eileen Villebrum as well as Renee Domier. He is survived by his son Dennis (Sharon) Mitchell; two daughters, Cheryl Ann Tryan and Terri Sue (Mike) Miller; and former spouse Virginia Mitchell.

Dick shared a special bond with grandchildren, Mathew Keating, Melissa Keating and Amanda Jo Miller. Other grandchildren are Tina Tryan, Steffanie Goldy, Danica Marullo, Lisa Mascarena, Dera Wichman and Tanya Martin. Also surviving are 19 great-grandchildren, a brother Barney (Laura) Dickhaus, sister Elaine (Real) DuBord and many nieces and nephews. Dick was kind, loving and a generous man. He touched many lives and will be greatly missed. We love you!

Services will be held 11AM Thursday May 8 at St Anthony Church of Laurel with internment at the Laurel Cemetery. Following the committal there will be a reception for family and friends at the parish hall.
