Orville Haney Obituary

Orville Eldon Haney, formerly of Frannie, WY died Friday February 25, 2011 in Billings. He was born March 1, 1923 in Powell, WY, delivered by Doc Graham. Orville began his childhood life climbing the hills of Elk Basin. He attended school there and Orville had said he ended his primary education there as both salutatorian and valedictorian since he was the only one in the class. Hard times came and the family moved to California in search of work. In 1938, Diamond Dick called Orville's folks', offering them a "job"; so they moved back to Frannie. Orville was then a sophomore and finished his schooling in Deaver where he graduated in 1941. Following graduation he studied a year at Polytechnic (Rocky Mountain College). During that period in his life, his passion was boxing but it didn't take long before he realized it was better to be a lover than a fighter. In 1942 he married Eldora Madsen. Together they made Frannie their home. During WWII Orville served in the NAVY in the South Pacific. After the war was over, Mr. Haney returned to Frannie where he worked in the oil fields until 1961 when he became the Post Master from which he retired in 1983. Since then he and Eldora have spent their winters in Arizona and summers' in Wyoming, ejoying the best of both worlds. Orville is past Master of Tri-Mountain View Lodge #35 of Deaver, a memeber of the American Legion, a life member of the Disabled American Veterans' and life member of the V.F.W. Left to cherish Orville's memory is his wife Eldora; nephews, David (Terry) Haney, Orville (Norma) Britton, Don (Sherry) Britton, Ken (Jan) Britton and Bill Britton; sister-in-law Laurine Britton as well as many great nieces and nephews.
