Milam Hearron Obituary

Milam Van Hearron passed away peacefully in his 90th year on February 13, 2016, at Grand Park Assisted Living community in Billings, Montana. He was born August 4, 1926 in Porum, Oklahoma, to Stonewall Jackson and Marie (Parsons) Hearron as the oldest of their three children. In the 1930s the family moved to Arizona and California, settling in Buttonwillow. During World War II he proudly enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving in the Pacific Theater of operations, primarily on Eniwetok in the Marshall Islands. After the war, Milam attended Bakersfield College concentrating on business courses. On Nov. 2, 1946 he married Virginia Burrow, and together they created a happy family with their four daughters. He enjoyed following the Los Angeles Dodgers and instilled a love of baseball in his girls. Milam worked for Union Oil Company, and in 1965 he was transferred to Billings. During this time he made many long lasting friendships with co-workers. He later found his true calling as a title examiner. In Roundup he founded Hearron Title Insurance establishing a reputation for a deep understanding of real estate law. He joined the Roundup Lions Club performing many acts of service including serving as District Secretary. He also served on the board for Roundup Memorial Hospital. One of his favorite activities was enjoying his property in the Bull Mountains. When he and Virginia sold the business, they moved back to Billings where he worked for Security Title until his final retirement at the age of 80. Milam's retirement years were spent enjoying sports and politics. He loved watching his grandchildren play in the band at West High. In 2012 Milam was thrilled to have traveled with other World War II veterans on the second Montana Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. It was definitely his greatest honor, and his family is very grateful for his experience. Milam is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Virginia; daughters Pamela Poynter, Houston, Texas; Carol Hearron, Sidney; Rhonda (Jim) Dawson, Billings, and Nancy (Curt) Scollard, San Antonio, Texas; grandchildren Amanda (John) Bender, Nic Dawson, Natalie Dawson, John Scollard, and Allison Scollard; and great-granddaughters Alana and Isabella Cruz. He is also survived by his sister Jean Walker, sister-in-law Birdie Shuck, as well as nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother James, and nephew Lynn Walker. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, February 18, 2016, at Emmanuel Baptist Church. Interment will be at Yellowstone National Cemetery, Laurel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Honor Flight San Diego.
