Martha Van Valkenburgh, 101, of Roberts, died peacefully December 7, 2013 from a stroke. She was born July 25, 1912 to Arvid and Elin Wilson at their homestead on Upper White Bird. Martha graduated from Roberts High School in 1931 and graduated from WMC and EMC with her teaching degree. She taught schools at Wilson, Plainview, Lower and Upper White Bird, Fishtail, White Sulphur Springs and Powell. She graduated from Hollywood Beauty School in California, worked 10 summers in Yellowstone National Park and ran the family farm until retirement. Martha is survived by her children, Jac Elin Wambach, Douglas, Roberta, William (Sylvia) Van Valkenburgh; 18 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren; a sister Esther Ely and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings Bertha Perez and Bill Wilson, son-in-law Miles P. Wambach, granddaughter and nieces and nephew. Funeral Services will be held 2:30pm Wednesday December 11, 2013 at the United Methodist Church Roberts. Memorial contributions may be made in Martha's name to the Roberts Community Fund, White Bird Community Fund or the charity of your choice.
