Mark Mace passed away peacefully on March 16 after living with the challenge of Alzheimer’s Disease. He was our beloved husband, Dad, Papa, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. He will always be remembered for his funny sense of humor and the twinkle in his eye as he made others laugh
Mark was born February 13, 1952 in Missoula, Montana to Gene and Miriam (Brown) Mace. He spent his youth in western Montana with his five siblings. The family moved all around Western Montana before settling in Seeley Lake, where they ran the U-Stop and the kids peeled mountains of potatoes. Mark graduated from Seeley Swan High School in 1971, enlisted in the United States Navy and served from 1971-1975 in the Vietnam War.
Mark married his sweetheart, Ronda Ryckman in 1975 and they began their family of three children in 1977. The couple moved to Laurel in 1981 while he was working as a welding instructor at the Vo-Tech. Later he began working for the City of Billings engineering department until he retired in 2017. Mark was active in the community of Laurel through the decades. When the kids were little, he coached softball and baseball teams and then served as Little League President, refereed high school football and followed his kids in all their sports. He was elected to multiple terms on the city council, served as the mayor and served with the American Legion Honor Guard. Mark was a kind and humble man with a tireless work ethic. He was proud of his family and his community and he will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife Ronda, his daughter Miranda Johnson (Roger), his son Kyle (Tina), his son Andrew (Nora), and eight grandchildren, Keelin, Sofie, Henry, Thomas, Oscar, Linus, Clara and Therese. He is also survived by sisters Lori, Gina(Dave), Lisa (Rick), brother Kirk (Kim), brother-in-law Les, and sisters-in-law Jan and Lynae along with many nieces and nephews.
