Mark Henckel, Billings Gazette outdoors editor known for his tireless advocacy for fishing, hunting and recreational interests died of a heart attack at his Park City home Saturday. Mark was born August 31, 1950 to Arthur and Rose (Brot) Henckel in Milwaukee, WI. Mark grew up in Milwaukee, attending school at Custer High School. Mark married his high school sweetheart, Carol Cinealis, Oct 23, 1971 in Milwaukee. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a degree in journalism in 1972 and accepted a Gazette job offer over the telephone and moved to Billings sight unseen to take a night reporter job where he stayed for 38 years. Mark enjoyed spending time with his family and teaching them and other of the outdoors. He was a talented writer, dedicated to his profession at The Gazette and made time for the needs of others as his talents would allow. Mark published 17 books, writing articles in magazines and authoring over 25 web-sites which he personally maintained. Mr. Henckel is survived by his wife Carol; mother Rose; sons Andrew (Sherri) Henckel and Matthew (Daisy) Henckel; brother, Robert (julie Henckel; sisters, Linda (Robert) Hayden, Lisa (Jim) Escher and Ann (Mark) Johnson; sister-in-law, Sabina Henckel; grandchildren, Alex, Riley, Linden and Edith; numerous nieces and nephews, uncles and aunts, as well as his dogs, Smokey and Bandit. Mark was preceeded in death by his father, 2 brothers and a grandchild. Visitation will be held Thursday from 9AM - 9PM at the Remington Letcher Chapel in Laurel. A Vigil will be held 6:30PM Friday June 4, 2010 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church with Funeral Services the following morning at 10:00AM Saturday June 6, 2010 at St. Anthony's
