Lawrence Hoffman Jr Obituary

Lawrence Nicholas Hoffman Jr was born in Mineola, New York on August 27, 1957 to parents Lawrence N. Hoffman Sr. and Lois (Constantine) Hoffman and passed away on his ranch in Laurel, Montana on March 16, 2024 at age 66, after losing his fight with cancer.  Growing up on Long Island, he had varied interests from high school wrestler, Martials arts student and hot rod racer.  Working as an electrician by day and an EMT at night, he later moved to Florida for a short while before moving to Greenfield, MA and starting a career as a phlebotomist and lab technician at Franklin Medical Center.  On the side he started Midnight Auto, a part time repo company, and joined the Mohawk Ramblers Motorcycle club for weekend rides and overall fun.  In 2016, Larry along with his life partner, Mary Stern - a CNA also at Franklin Medical Center, bought 22 acres in Laurel, MT and started building their ranch.  He went to farrier school in Bozeman, MT and started shoeing horses for a short while before starting yet another career in long haul trucking for Swift, for a year.  He eventually took a local trucking position with Madison Propane Co delivering propane and setting up propane tanks so he could be at home every night and weekend to do all the things on a ranch with horses, goats, chickens and even helping herd cows on occasion!

While trying to finish the house he was building in Laurel, MT (just outside Billings), he was diagnosed with cancer, and after major surgery finally succumbed within a few months. The world lost a sweet, caring man who did so much for others. Larry lived a very colorful life, on his own terms.   He deeply touched the lives of those family, friends and neighbors who highly appreciated and loved this generous man. The stories and adventures from his childhood to the present day were always funny and fascinating and he gave his all to everything he did.

Larry is survived by his life partner, Mary Stern; son Nicholas L. Hoffman and grandson, Zachary Hoffman of Greenfield, MA;, Mary’s family also living on the ranch – Caitlin & Jake Wade and their children Hadley, Sierra, and Garrett; Jessica Stern of Urbana, IL ; Amanda Stern of Portland, OR; his older brother, Curtis Hoffman & his wife, Charmaine D’Addio, of Tehachapi, CA - as well as numerous cousins all over the USA – VT, MA, WA, UT, FL, GA, etc. from the “Constantine clan”.

We are all saddened that after just retiring, he never got to realize all his dreams and bright future plans. We will all cherish the memories and moments we shared.  A Celebration of Life memorial to be announced later.  RIP “Little Larry”.
