Kenneth L. Olsen, 66, passed away at his home in Laurel Tuesday April 28, 2009 surrounded by family and friends after a short hard battle with pancreatic cancer. Ken was born August 5, 1942 to Bert and Leona (Rose) Olsen of Charlo, Montana. He attended Charlo Public Schools where he lettered in basketball and football. After graduation Ken proudly served in the Army for 2 years. In 1969 Ken joined the IBEW Local 532 in Billings beginning his electrical career starting as a line construction grounds man. In 1973 Ken completed an inside wireman apprenticeship program. Between 1973 and 1988 Ken served as Treasurer, Assistant Business Manager and then Business Manager of Local 532. These positions were followed by his appointment as an In-Office Representative for the 8th District of the IBEW in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Ken retied September 2004 returning home to Montana to be close to his daughters and grandchildren. During his retirement Ken loved traveling from coast to coast meeting friends and family in his motor home.
Ken loved his family and took full advantage of what life had to offer him. Ken is survived by wife Lois; daughters Kari (Greg) Loterbauer, Kelly (Doug) Clark; grandchildren Kelsey, Jenifer and Jacob Fox; brother-in-law Dave (Marlise) Zine; brothers, Robert, Verle (Becky), Clyde (Lynn), and Donald, all of Charlo, Montana, Virgil (Jerry Jo) of Spokane, Washington, Delmar (Beth) of Wolf Point, Montana; sisters, Barbara (Wayne) Ness of Castle Rock, Washington and Delma (John) Rosenbaum of Phoenix, Arizona. Ken is also survived by several aunts, nieces, nephews plus many cousins. Ken was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Alan.
Ken's family would like to thank Riverstone Hospice, Dr. Patrick Cobb and very special family and friends who spent Ken's last days by his side; Dave and Linda Kautzman, Ken and Joan Weller and Bill and Sally Malone for all their love and kindness during this time. According to Ken's wishes, he will be cremated and his ashes will be spread on his land in Charlo with a service for family and friends at the Leon Community Center in Charlo, Montana Monday May 4, at 1:00PM
