The Miles City sheik, broadcaster and erstwhile sailor has signed off, taken the last caravan to paradise, and now stands eternally at ease. John (as his birth certificate states) Carl Metropoulos, was born June 25, 1930, in Glendive, to John and Retta May Metropoulos. He was raised in Miles City, an only child, and graduated from Custer County High School. Jon joined the United States Navy, serving on destroyers until just before the outbreak of the Korean War, when he was honorably discharged. He returned to Miles City where he soon met Marilyn Olson, they were married October 10, 1954 and together raised three children. Jon gained notoriety conducting remotes for KATL radio in Miles City and as news director at KULR TV in Billings. Beginning in 1971, Jon's career as the voice of MDU, throughout the Dakotas and eastern Montana brought him satisfaction, lasting friends and memories .In his retirement, Jon completed building a Packard-MG Hybrid, lovingly named the "Metro Enigma." He enjoyed golfing with his sons and grandsons and traveling abroad. He worked hard, created many things of beauty, enjoyed life some, though perhaps not enough, and at the end struggled mightily to keep it. His greatest pride was in his family. Left to cherish Jon's memory is his wife of 60 years, Marilynn; children Valyn (Steve Swanson), Jon (Theresa) Metropoulos and Tyler Metropoulos; eight grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A memorial Service will be at 2:00pm Tuesday June 16, 2015 at Messiah Lutheran Church (Corner of Colton and Rehberg). Interment will be at Custer County Cemetery in Miles City
