John Peterson Obituary

John Roland Peterson, 53 of Rapid City, South Dakota died unexpectedly Sunday, January 19, 2020 at his home.

He was born January 29, 1966 in Grafton, ND. Vernon and Marlene Peterson adopted and welcomed their 1st son into their home on May 18, 1966. John was baptized and confirmed at Peace Lutheran Church in Scranton, North Dakota. John attended and graduated from Scranton Public School in 1984. After graduation, John became well-traveled working short periods of time in Oregon, Washington, Colorado, Florida, North Dakota and finally settling in Rapid City for the last 20+ years.

He enjoyed working the Sturgis Rally at the Busted Knuckle, loud heavy metal music and having beers with friends.

John is survived by his father, Vernon; brothers, Eric (Colleen), Owen (Tammy), Kirk (Gretchen); nieces and nephews, Emma, Anders, Isaac, Elena, Mia, Annika; and Nicholas (Danelle) Matzke who he raised as his own son; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

John was preceded in death by his mother, Marlene Peterson; grandparents, Leonard and Emma Peterson and Harold and Selma Jorgenson.

A Ceremonial Tribute will be held Monday, January 27 at 11:00 AM at the Peace Lutheran Church in Scranton, North Dakota with Pastor Mary Wiggins officiating. Interment will take place at the Gascoyne Cemetery in Gascoyne, North Dakota.
