Joel Torres, 61, of Laurel, Mont., passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones, Saturday, June 29, 2019, after a long battle with cancer.
He was born November 25, 1957, to Nasario and Sofia Torres in Hermo- cillo, Sonora, Mexico. In 1979 Joel met the love of his life, Mabel Torres. They were married May 9, 1980, in San Luis, Sonora, Mexico. Joel and Mabel moved to Montana in 1989. Together they had three sons, Jared, Jonas and Joel and five grand- children.
They opened up their very popular authentic Mexican restaurant, Cafe Mabels in Laurel in 1991. Cooking was something Joel really enjoyed and he loved teaching others his skills. He loved making music and singing in the kitchen while cooking at the restaurant. He enjoyed tinkering around in his garage with his cars and motorcycles. Joel touched many hearts in this community. He will be greatly missed by all he knew.
Joel was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and brothers. He is survived by his wife, Mabel Torres; three sons, Jared, Jonas (Crystal), and Joel (Clari) Torres; six sisters, Berta, Toya, Judith, Julia, Janina and Jeanette; five grand- children, Katelynn, Brandon, Jonas II, Jazlyn, and Heaven; and many neices and nephews. There will be no services.
