JoAnn Arlene (Shelton) Nelsen- Rosenau, was born August 22, 1936 in Dodson-Phillips County , Montana
to Arley and Cecil (Main) Shelton. She attended school in St. Ignatius, Montana. She married
the love of her life, John Nelsen, on November 19, 1955. They were married for over 50
years. She was preceded in death by John Nelsen. JoAnn had four children; Steve (Robin)
Nelsen, Timothy (Linda) Nelsen, Jeniel (Dean) Hodges, and Joye (Daryl) Recanati. She
had nine grandchildren: Jess, Aaron, and Caleb Nelsen; Joshua Nelsen and Patsy Manley;
Heidi Apa and Clark Hodges; and Jennifer and Kyle Recanati. She also had 10 great
grandchildren.
JoAnn died peacefully surrounded by her children while singing "I'll Fly Away". JoAnn
loved her God and her family. She taught Bible Quiz teams through the Assembly of God
church. She also taught many tax classes. JoAnn enjoyed painting, handcrafts, and
puzzles. She volunteered in the church nursery for Parkhill Assembly of God as she
thoroughly enjoyed small children. JoAnn also assisted in the nursery at St. Johns
and helped students at the local school with math. She was the leader for the AARP Tax
Program for many years.
Later in her life, JoAnn married Frank Rosenau from Lemmon, South Dakota and was married
for 8 years. She lived the remainder of her life in Lemmon until her health required
more care. She was loved by all who knew her and she will be greatly missed.
