Janet Fay Brown, 90, died Saturday November 15, 2025 at her home in Billings. She was born June 7, 1935 in Helena to Harry and Martha (Guslander) Austin. She attended school and graduated from Whitewater School. Janet had known Russell Brown most of her young life and they married June 3, 1954, together raising four children. They farmed in Whitewater before moving to the Mussellshell ranch and later retired in Helena. Janet worked outside the family home in the kitchen of Shodair Children’s Hospital where she enjoyed visiting and getting to know the young people. Following Russell’s death in 2008, Janet moved to Billings spending time with friends and family, eventually moving to her apartment at Aspen View where she made many new friends. She enjoyed the music and playing Bingo! Janet also cherished her time working on quilts with her church family at Mount Olive Lutheran Church. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Russell, a brother Harry Austin, and daughter in-law Anita Brown. Left to cherish Janet’s memory are her children, Carol (Randy) Remington, Gene Brown, Kelly (Paul) Blackford and Glen (Holly) Brown; a sister Helen Austin; sister in-law Sally Austin; 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
