Jim Brunsvold, 67, passed away on Sunday May 10, 2025 in Colstrip, Montana. Jim was born November 17, 1957 to Richard and Maxine (Candee) Brunsvold in Sidney. He attended Shadwell country school in Skaar, North Dakota in his early years. March of 1971 Jim's family moved to Medicine Lake, Montana where his father worked for Richard Hendrickson while the kids attended Medicine Lake Public School, Jim graduating in 1976. Following graduation, Jim was employed by the Burlington Northern Railroad until returning to the family ranch in Skaar. Jim moved to Sidney in 1988, working for several entities driving truck and operating heavy equipment.
Jim met the love of his life, Janet Rothenberger, at the Triangle Night Club south of Sidney, September 1993. After knowing Janet for only four days, Jim asked Janet to marry him. Janet consented and returned to California to get her horse, cats and two dogs. On the return trip of 21 hours, Janet's pickup broke down in Miles City. She called Jim who went to get her. commenting that her pickup 'stunk' of animals! They were married on Thanksgiving of that year.
Jim's wishes were to be cremated. Those who wish to celebrate Jim's life with a drink and old stories at the American Legion are encouraged to do so; Jim would have gotten a kick out of that.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Douglas Brunsvold and a nephew Nicolas Skillingberg.
Left to cherish Jim's memory is his wife Janet and four beloved wiener dogs; sister Dixie (David) Skillingberg of Homestead, Montana, brother Randy (Stacy) Brunsvold of Polson; nieces and nephews: Mark, Eric, Casey, Marcy, Shelby, Andrea and Lexie.
Jim will be greatly missed...
