George L. Rupp grew up in Pennsylvania but loved his years out West in Colorado, Wyoming, and Montana. He was the middle son, of three boys (Vern, George & John) to parents Adam and Stella Rupp. In 1959, George met his beloved wife, Mary on a blind date. They were married two years later and spent 56 wonderful years together. They had three children Darlene (Clark) Davis, Jeff (Rosalee) Rupp, and Gloria (Kyle) Geffre and 6 grandchildren: Ryan Davis, Samantha Hanes, Matthew Williams, Rachael Rupp, Elizabeth Rupp, and Addison Geffre. George is survived by his brother John (Cathy) Rupp, and sister-in-law Lillian (Vern) Rupp, including many other close relatives (Hoover, Rupp, and Bowman families).
A certified electrician by trade, George worked many years for the Bureau of Reclamation - Fort Peck Dam (MT), Seminoe Dam (WY) and Boysen Dam (WY). He enjoyed the Thermopolis Hot Springs hot pools, fishing, hunting, and oil painting. He helped Mary open their Shoe Barn shoe business in Thermopolis. George constantly assisted her with craft projects. He listened to his collection of classical Mantovani records, Barry Manilow, and Alan Jackson music, while always cruising through garage sales with Mary, spending time in his faith with the Lord, and their many trips to Pennsylvania visiting family and friends after his retirement.
George was a kind-hearted gentleman who always would lend a hand to those in need with a friendly word or an entire conversation about computers, hydrogen cars, politics, fishing, hunting, or the struggles of using his cell phone. He would regularly dance a little jig or would give you a big hug. He was a wonderful father to his children, playing cards, building Legos, playing on the floor with them or taking the family to the mountains to explore, while he was really scouting for elk. He was a loving and dedicated husband to Mary, all through the years, even until the very end in 2017 as she had fought Alzheimer’s disease. They had moved to Laurel, MT to be with family due to the illness. They are now reunited in heaven as George passed away on November 5, 2023.
Services will be held Wed. November 22 in Laurel, Montana at 11AM for Military Honors at The Yellowstone National Cemetery, 55 Buffalo Trail Rd, and 12:00 at The Rock Church, 820 W. 9th St. for Memorial service with reception following.
