Eugene James “Jim” Schroeder died on August 31, 2023 during the early night at the age of 82. Jim had been ill following stomach surgery. He was born on November 28, 1939 in Little Falls, Minnesota to Alvin Vern and Evelyn Marie (Trutwin) Schroeder. When Jim was 10 years old, the family moved to Billings where they resided near North Park. Jim attended public schools until he was in the 10th grade at Billings Senior High School. Jim and his sisters’, Darlene and Yvonne, then attended Billings Central Catholic High School. Following high school, Jim enlisted in the United States NAVY where he served as an Officer’s secretary traveling the Pacific Islands aboard the USS Okanogan.
Jim married Jeanette Walter August 3, 1963, they were married 60 years.
After his Honorable Discharge from service, Jim worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad eventually taking a ‘buy-out’ at age 47. He volunteered for the SEG Credit Union, Laurel Chamber of Commerce- awarded Lifetime Achievement Award and Laurel Golf Club. He played Cowboy Polo for years and was a member of the Yellowstone County Sheriff’s Posse. Jim was named outstanding volunteer for Montana Credit Union Person on April 26, 2002. On March 28, 2012, Jim was again awarded Outstanding Service Commendation for the Billings ELKS Club.
Many years of volunteering with Jeanette at his side. Jim and Jeanette enjoyed traveling to many countries in their motor home, especially Mexico.
A graveside committal will be held 11:00 am Tuesday September 26, 2023 at Yellowstone National Cemetery in Laurel.
