Edna Mercier Obituary

On February 7, 2025 our beautiful mother made her journey to heaven to be with Jesus and her beloved Billy, who she missed terribly these last 2 years.

Edna Irene Sharbono was born August 19, 1934, She grew up on a farm just outside of Sidney Montana with her parents Gilbert and Ruth Sharbono and siblings Ervin, Viola and Virgil. She grew up riding horses everywhere! That was the only transportation she had when she wanted to go visit her cousins. There were so many Sharbono’s in the area the school was called the Sharbono School. When it was time for High school she went in to Lambert. That’s where she met Billy Mercier, he would become the love of her life. They were married 71 years before he passed away in 2022.

On November 20, 1951 Edna married William “Bill” Mercier. They lived in Lambert until Bill was drafted into the United States Marine Corps. Bill was stationed at Camp Pendleton California, Edna went to California with him. This was a big move for her since she had never been farther away from home than to Glendive MT, which was only 50 miles away. She told stories of things she did while living there like, when she and a friend decided to go to Tijuana and got on the wrong bus and ended up at the dog races. She was a lot braver then. When Bill received orders to go to Korea to take part in the war Edna moved back to Sidney.

The Korean War ended before ships got there so Bill ended up in Japan instead. That’s where he was when their daughter, Diana Lee, was born in 1953. After Bill was discharged they made their home in Sidney. In 1955 their first son, Randy Scott, was born. In 1960 Kevin William completed the family.

Mom enjoyed cooking, baking and gardening. Going to Church and her faith were very important to her. She was very involved with church activities. There was always the Sunday family dinner after church.

In 1971 Bill and Edna moved to the Laurel area, they resided there ever since. Edna worked various jobs, but mostly as a waitress and a bookkeeper at the UBC lumber yard.

Mom was a very loving person and her family meant everything to her. There was nothing she enjoyed more than spending time with her kids and grandkids.

Edna is survived by her daughter Diana (Gary) Harding, sons Randy (Rose) Mercier and Kevin (Jessie) Mercier. Grandchildren Alana Harding, Lynnette Harding, Scott (Christina) Mercier, Jeremy Mercier, Autumn (Justin) Maxwell, Jen Kibbe(Mike Kuebler), Cody(Mandy) Mercier, Shay Mercier(Xavior Can), Allison Harlow.
