Dorothy Katherine (Steinmetz) Sitzman

Dorothy was born on June 29, 1935 in Crow Agency, Montana, the second of nine children to Henry and Helen (Pitsch) Steinmetz.  She was baptized on July 28, 1935 in the Lutheran Church in Hardin.  Dorothy was confirmed at the Congregational Church in Laurel March 18, 1951.  Her memory verse was Psalm 16:11  "In Thy presence is fullness of joy; at Thy right hand there are pleasure for evermore..."

Dorothy grew up in Hardin, Harlem and Park City, Montana.  She attended 9 Mile School, a one room country school north of Hardin with 8 grades in the one big room.  Her fgamily moved south of Hardin in 1942 and she attended school in Hardin.  When she was in 4th grade, the family moved to Harlem where she attended school through part of 8th grade.  In February of 1949, the family moved to Park City where she attended school until her graduation in 1953.  During her high school years, Dorothy worked at Ward's City and the Big Boy Drive-In in Billings.  During the 1980's she worked at Dr. McLain and Dr. Ryan before going to work at Yellowstone Bank in Laurel.

John W. Sitzman and Dorothy were married on Sunday June 14, 1953 in Park City at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, where she was a member since 1953.  She belonged to LWML and served as Church Treasurer for five years.

Dorothy's hobbies were sewing clothing, making quilts, embroidering, crocheting, some knitting and genealogy.  She also loved camping and traveling with her husband and family.  She enjoyed a trip to Hawaii with her sister Lorna in the 1980's and also a trip to Oberammergau in Germany to the Passion play with church friends in 1999.  She enjoyed traveling and helping drive over-the-road with her husband in an 18 wheeler from September 1986 to December 23, 1993.  After retiring from trucking she and her husband enjoyed being snowbirds.

She is survived by three of her children, Randy (Kristin) of Billings, Rick (Kathleen) of New Bern, NC, Greg of Elizabeth, CO; siblings Lorna (Richard) Kappel, Ron Steinmetz, Fred (Mary Lee) Steinmetz, Pete (Jeanne) Steinmetz, Sharon Schrumpf and Corinne (Dave) Wright.

She was preceded in death by her husband John, daughter Cindy, her parents, daughter-in-law Kelly, sisters and brothers-in-law Deloris and Ed Heibichner, Virginia and Ray Edmonds, sister-in-law Linda Steinmetz and brother-in-law Don Schrumpf.

Funeral Services will be 10:00 am Saturday September 4, 2021 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Park City.
