Dorene Hammer Obituary

Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister aunt, and friend took the hand of her Lord and Savior and danced into Heaven Tuesday March 23, 2010 in Billings. Dorene was born to Earl and Vera Cook June 22, 1937 in Wheatland, WY. Dorene grew-up in Guernsey, WY where she enjoyed time at the Guernsey Dam. She met and married Wayne Slaymaker and moved to Alliance, NE. To this union were born 2 daughters. Later they moved to Denver, Co where she begacme a licensed nursing home activities director and later a license administrator of nursing homes, she loved working with the elderly. Dorene moved to Laurel and she met and married the love of her life, Darwin Hammer. Together they had one daughter. Dorene worked for 13 years at the laurel Christian Day Care Center and enjoyed children of all ages. She also later worked at the Pfaff Chiropractic Clinic fo several years. SHe enjoyed playing cards weekly with her friends, playing piano, reading and especially working in her yard where she collected and arranged lighthouses of all sizes. Her home was her haven. Left to cherish Dorene's memory are her husband Darwin; daughters Debi (Dwain) Frickel, Cheri Cortina and Jami (Brian)Fitchber; 13 grandchildren; 6 great-greandchildren (plus a new baby girl any day now!); brother Leon (Louise); sister Deanna(Clyton) and several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death are her parents and brothers Charles, Donald and John. A Celebration of Dorene's life will be held June 19, 2010 at 2:00pm at the Family Christian Church of Laurel.
