Joyce "Darlene" Kohl passed away June 14, 2016 at St. Vincent Hospital. She was born October 28, 1933 to George and Lydia (Reiter) Hart on the Whitehouse Bench south of Laurel. Darlene loved motorcycles and owned an "Indian" motorcycle as a teenager. She was a member of the Meter Maids Motorcycle Club in the late 1940's early 1950's. She married Anthony Kohl in 1952 and together they had three daughters. Anthony died in 1954. While caring for her parents and working on the farm, Darlene worked various jobs and found her calling working as a sales associate at J.C. Penny in Laurel and later in Billings. She was a life long member of the Congregational Church in Laurel and taught Sunday School and Youth Group and once served as Assistant Superintendent. Another highlight was when in 1993 Darlene succeeded in getting her GED. She is survived by daughters Deborah (Leon) Schmidt, Patricia Kohl and Toni (Gordon) McKittrick; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death are her parents and two brothers William and Thomas. During her lifetime, Darlene was a caregiver to family and her many friends. Special thanks to Pauline, Linda, Patrick and Pastor Gary for their steadfast fellowship also the staff at Tendernest. Graveside Services will be held 10:30am Monday June 20, 2016 at Laurel Cemetery with a celebration reception to follow at Best Western Yellowstone Crossing in Laurel. Memorial Contributions may be made to Montana Talking Book Library or Rocky Mountain Hospice.
