. Daniel J. Fettig was born in Rapid City, South Dakota on October 20, 1977 to Dennis L. and Janice L. (Hadorn) Fettig. Dan lost his short 10 week battle with metastatic uveal melanoma cancer early in the morning of July 3, 2024 at his home surrounded by family and friends. He was educated in Billings, attending Arrowhead Grade School, Will James Middle School and graduating from Billings West High School in May of 1996.
In July of 1996, Dan left Montana to attend the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. He graduated with a BS in Economics. On May 24, 2000, he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps. His training and travels while being a Marine included stints in Quantico, Virginia; Okinawa, Japan; South Korea; Tinian, Guam; Iwo Jima; Ramadi, Iraq; and his final assignment of two years was spent based in Frankfurt, Germany conducting security inspections at US Embassies and Consulates across Russia, Central Asia, Eastern Europe and the Baltics. In 2006 he decided it was time to return to Montana. Dan was Honorably Discharged from the USMC as Captain O3, on July 18, 2006. "To all his Marine brothers: rest assured he will be guarding the streets of heaven until we can get there to relieve him..."
Dan met met Shauna Waller in August of 2007. They were married in Red Lodge September 19, 2009. To this union Sawyer Fettig was born August 7, 2013, and Sylvie Fettig on November 19, 2016. Dan was a avid outdoors man, hunter, skier, hiker, runner, etc. and passed those passions onto his children.
Left to cherish Dan's memory, his wife Shauna; children Sawyer and Sylvie; parents Dennis and Jan; brother Matthew (Molly) Fettig, sister Gina (Nick) Joslin; mother and father-in-law Tom and Linda Waller; 4 nephews; 2 nieces as well as numerous extended family, friends, co-workers, valued customers and Military comrades.
Memorial Services will be 11:30 am Friday July 26, 2024 at the Rock Church 820 West 9th Street, Laurel, with Interment following at Yellowstone National Cemetery 55 Buffalo Trail Road, Laurel.
A reception for friends and family to immediately follow at Laurel Golf Club, 1020 Golf Course Road, Laurel.
In remembrance of Dan's life and his final wishes, he entreats that any memorial contributions be made to Sawyer and Sylvie's 529 tax deductible education fund managed by UBS
