Anton "Tony" Lehman Obituary

Anton “Tony” Archie Lehman, 61, of Powell, Wyoming went to be with his Lord and Savior on April 25, 2025 at his Heart Mountain home.

Anton was born on February 28, 1964, to John and Alice Lehman and he was named after his grandfathers. As a young child he spent a lot of time with his dad at the Hungarian Club in Bloomington, IL until his father passed away when Anton was a young child.

In his teenage years, he met Shelly, they fell in love, and were married on June 5, 1982. They made their home in Buford, GA where their three children, Daniel, Janese, and Jed, were born. Tony always loved the west from a young age and wanted to be a cowboy. In 1992, he traded his banjo and bluegrass for cowboy boots and cowboy hat and he moved his family to Casper, Wyoming to live out his cowboy dream.

Shortly after, Tony moved to Cody.  He put his talent for woodworking to use building furniture at New West Furniture and working on stringed instruments. He also helped ranch friends during calving season, working with horses, and team penning. He truly lived out his lifelong dream of being a cowboy, joining in on brandings and roundups. In addition to riding horses and working cattle, he was often found singing cowboy songs.

In 1999, Tony made Heart Mountain his home. He worked for local cabinet shops and eventually built his business, Anton’s Musical Instrument Repair.  He was a master luthier and a factory authorized repair center for many guitar makers including Martin, Fender, and Taylor.  He honed his skill and was a talented craftsman. He also became a skilled tax preparer and worked as an elk hunting guide, taking people on the trip of their lifetime. During his life, Anton made a habit of showing appreciation to all those around him whether working at the landfill or the cashiers in the store.

Tony loved God, his wife, hunting, fishing, and riding his motorcycles. He was an avid pool player and of course he loved playing music. His eyes twinkled often as he teased Shelly over this or that. He doted on his grandchildren, though they all lived far away, he wrote them notes and made the effort to call them, even though he hated that kind of thing. When his first grandchild was born, he was so sure the baby’s first word would be elk, he named himself Grandpa Elk so the baby’s first word would refer to him. Once the grandkids were old enough to be interested in motorcycles and the like, Grandpa Elk was very popular and spent any time he could playing with the grandkids.

He will be sorely missed by his wife and children, family and friends.

Tony faithfully reminded his children and grandchildren to trust in God and live for Him. He was thankful for the mercy and grace of salvation that God gave him in his life and was a member of First Baptist Church of Cody, Wyoming.

Anton was preceded in death by his dad John, his mom Alice, Dan and Dora Hedenberg, and his step-dad Ted Oesch.

He’s survived by his loving wife of over 42 years, Shelly; his children Daniel (Lisa), Janese, and Jed (Alisa); his grandchildren: David, Jonathan, Hannah, Jackson, Julianna, Elizabella, and Sarai with one more grandchild on the way; his step-mom, Ruth; his siblings Martha, John, Pam, Melissa, Don, and Michael.

A Celebration of Life will be 2:00 pm Wednesday April 30, 2025at First Baptist Church in Cody.
